James Cameron and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson have begun work on developing plant proteins that could help steer New Zealand’s agricultural system towards a more sustainable future. Cameron, Jackson, Suzy Amis Cameron and Dame Fran Walsh founded PBT New Zealand. The company, which is run by a very small team, is now in the research phase.
During an interview on TVZN, in which Cameron spoke about the agricultural industry in New Zealand, he stated that within twenty to thirty years we must live in a world in which no meat is consumed. He added that our country is “not living up to its own image” because of the environmental damage caused by the meat and dairy industry.
